There are mornings in the Blue Mountains when the world rearranges itself overnight. You go to sleep knowing exactly what the road looks like, the red dirt, the gum bark, the familiar tunnel of branches overhead. You wake up and none of that is gone exactly, but something has been added that changes everything.
The trees didn't ask for this. They are eucalypts, built for heat and drought and the long dry summers. Snow is not part of their vocabulary. And yet here they are, holding it anyway, branch by branch, leaf by leaf, while the road beneath them stays stubbornly itself.
It won't last. It never does up here. But for now the corridor is white, and the world is quieter than it has any right to be.
