Light in a forest is always moving and almost always indifferent to whether you are watching. This shaft found a cluster of tiny flowers on top of a hedge and stayed just long enough for me to notice it, long enough for one frame, and then it was gone. Everything around those flowers was in deep shadow. The trees behind were soft and distant. The forest floor invisible. To find a moment like this you have to be already inside the place, already still, already paying close attention to things that most people walk past without stopping. You cannot rush toward these images. You have to already be there when they happen. This one reminded me why I always am.
